Description
-
This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. This image depicts a man standing in the pine grove at the upper end of the lower pool of Soloman's Pools. Soloman's Pools are three large water reservoirs located outside of Bethlehem on the road to Hebron, which date back to the 2nd century BC. They were part of a complex ancient water system that comprised acqueducts and springs. Tubes made of clay such as the one in the photo ran along the Artas Road. This photo was taken by the American Colony Photo Department in Jerusalem.
