Description
This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. This image depicts a man in traditional dress sat by the mouth of one of the tunnels of the Wadi el Biyar aqueduct which runs down into Soloman's Pools. Soloman's Pools are three large water reservoirs located outside of Bethlehem on the road to Hebron, which date back to the 2nd century BC. They were part of a complex ancient water system that comprised acqueducts and springs. This photo was taken by the Matson Photo Service which replaced the American Colony Photo Department in Jerusalem.
