This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. This image depicts slime pits found in the Dead Sea. The slime is a black solid, which is found in small lumps and larger masses in the limestone of the western part of the Dead Sea. In this photograph the slime is visible in the black formations on the ground. The image is part of a collection that was gifted to the Library of Congress by the board of directors of the American Colony of Jerusalem.
