This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. These images depict Eric Matson’s diary entries from 1935, in which he was given control of the American Colony Photo Department and its assets. Eric Matson was one of the leading photographers of the American Colony in Jerusalem who moved to Colony as a young child with his family from Sweden. The entries from this year were recorded on a trip to Cappadocia with American Colony member John D. Whiting and is his only diary he kept in the 1930s. His entries describe his work with the American Colony in the wake of the split that had occurred the pervious year. It also gives details of photographic shoots, travel arrangements, people encountered and descriptions of historical sites and landscapes.
