This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. These images depict Eric Matson’s diary entries from 1922, which is the most detailed year of his diaries. Eric Matson was one of the leading photographers of the American Colony in Jerusalem who moved to Colony as a young child with his family from Sweden. The diary opens with lists of Palestine population figures from the 1920 census, as well as postal rates and measurements. From that point onwards he writes daily entries describing both his work and social life in Palestine. The diary contains a number of references to Bethlehem, including midnight mass held on 24 December.
