This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. These images depict Eric Matson’s diary entries from 1921. Eric Matson was one of the leading photographers of the American Colony in Jerusalem who moved to Colony as a young child with his family from Sweden. His diary entries from this year contain details of Matson’s photography work and the social life of the American Colony in Jerusalem. There are also comments on the rising tension in both Palestine (including the demonstrations and violence in Jaffa) and the wider region.
