This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. These images depict Eric Matson’s diary entries from 1919. Eric Matson was one of the leading photographers of the American Colony in Jerusalem who moved to Colony as a young child with his family from Sweden. His diary entries from this year contain detailed notes about photographic shoots, including in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem (see pp.7-8 of the pdf document). The notes include the date of the shoot, the number assigned to the photograph, its subject and location, expenses incurred, and maps. There are also snippets of narrative diary entries from January and June.
