This is a digital reproduction of an image held in the Library of Congress. These images depict Eric Matson’s diary entries from 1908. Eric Matson was one of the leading photographers of the American Colony in Jerusalem who moved to Colony as a young child with his family from Sweden. His entries from 1908 consist of relatively brief notes from July in which he describes his photography trips to Petra and the Dead Sea, including the wilderness area that is part of the Bethlehem Governorate. Included in his notes are brief details of each shoot including its subject and location, the expenses incurred, and a hand-drawn diagram.
