Saliba al-Sous (74 years old from Beit Sahour) interviewed by Haneen Abu Sa'da on 17 May 2006. She discusses the following: British Mandate and the Arab Revolt of 1936-39; suffering caused by British rule with its commitment to facilitate Jewish immigration as specified by the Balfour Declaration; most of the rebels in the Bethlehem area were from the Ta'amra Bedouin tribe who collected money from people to protect them and would kill anyone who refused such as Nicola Shahin; Bethlehem suffered a great deal because of the General Strike of 1936 because it depended on tourism; rebels collected money every week to finance the rebellion; ever since that time people in Bethlehem, Beit Sahour and Beit Jala have disliked the Ta'amra people.
