Description
Hassan Abd al-Latif (77 years old from Battir) interviewed by Sa'ida al-Batma. He describes the following: tales related to him by his father and grandfather about World War I and the British Mandate; locusts came from the east from Jordan and the noise they used to make; to get rid of the locusts they made a tunnel in the land with a metal cover on top so the locusts would fall in and then they would burn them; locust plague resulted in starvation as they ate all the crops; coastal areas were less damaged by the locusts; there were no deaths in Battir; the General Strike of 1936 and how it happened by chance; during the British Mandate many people sold their lands. Original audio recording: cassette tape. In the original collection at Bethlehem University this cassette tape was categorised as File 1 of Box 9.
